Okay, this is basically about how a wiseguy in the Tesorieri family is expected to act. Important for members 'n all.
I'm going to start this with some basic Mafia rules that I picked up from a reliable site. ^^
These rules are simple, and so are the reasons behind them. Let me explain.
Rule Number One: Obedience
This is all about respect. Always do what your boss tells you. He's the boss for a good reason, so do what he says. The boss is the only one who can give the order to whack someone or make someone. If you've got a beef with someone, don't go thinking that you have the right to get rid of the problem yourself. Keep your cool, think with your head and stay smart. You take your beef to the next sit down and let the boss decide. Always do what he says, and nothing more. Don't start any fights you can't win.
Rule Number Two: Loyalty
Always remain loyal to members of the Family. Your Family always comes first, no exceptions. So be a team player. Don't get in the way of each other's interests. Be prepared to defend the Family with your life. An attack on any member should be considered an attack on all members, to be avenged no matter what. Also, remember that other Families are family, too. You are expected to help out any faction in need, unless that faction is at war with your Family, in which case they are to be treated as mortal enemies. At least until your Don says otherwise, then you can play nice.
Rule Number Three: Honor
This one is simple, and ties into the first two rules. Basically, just be a stand-up guy. Keep your eyes and ears open and your mouth shut. When you see something that's not your business, don't see it. Keep your mouth shut. If you hear things not mean for you, don't hear them. Don't be a babbo. Mind your own business.
Rule Number Four: Pride
If you take pride in your business and your Family, the rest comes naturally. Be a man of "mafia" was once used to describe individuals of pride, excellence, grace and self-confidence. Try and live up to it, for chrissakes. Respect women and your elders. Try to have some class.
Rule Number Five: Silence
Now this is the big one. The sacred oath of Omertà. This basically means silence, but the word "Omertà" was once used to describe manliness. So never discuss Family business. Never have any dealings with authorities under any circumstances. Don't be an informer. Remember, no one likes a rat, unless it's a dead rat. You are to keep the identities and activities of Family members secret at all costs. Violation of this code is punishable by death. Nobody's going to give you a pass on this one, so don't go wagging your tongue unless you want to die.
Next, some rules regarding sex and romance. From the same site. ^^
Since we've talked about Mafia Code and rules of conduct, I'd like to move on to recreational activities, namely the rules of sex and romance. Promiscuity is regarded as a sign of manliness, right? Right, especially in the Mafia. So not only is it silently encouraged to have beautiful mistresses, but of course Mafiosi also have some major advantages over your regular Joe. First of all, lots of wiseguys have a helluva lot of money, and this does not exactly hinder them in their efforts to pick up women. They also have power, and more importantly, don't forget everyone's fascination with the so-called mystique and romance of the Mafia... this can really grease the so-called wheels of a potential mistress. Hey, that's funny! So how does a made man keep his affairs, if you know what I mean, in order?
In a mob marriage, the wife knows ahead of time that her husband's business can keep him out until all hours of the night, or even away from home for days at a time. On top of this, Mafia wives are trained not to ask questions. It's a sweet deal, but this sort of freedom demands that certain rules be obeyed so that no one gets... how should I put it... embarrassed. It's important not to disrespect or embarrass your wife because, as you know, family is the name of the game in the Honored Society.
I'm going to let you in on a little arrangement that keeps everybody happy. Tradition dictates that Friday nights be reserved for wiseguys to take out their girlfriends. This way they can enjoy a night in Little Italy or a stroll down Mulberry Street without the fear of running into their wives! Although violation of a Mafia wife is punishable by death, the execution of the penalty (and I do mean execution) is rarely carried out for sexual offenses. The actual purpose of these rules of sexual conduct is to reduce the incidence of matters of honor that could inhibit the orderly activities of your crime family.
Now Saturday night is a little different. On Saturdays, wise wiseguys make up for their Friday night escapades by giving their wives a night on the town. This happy arrangement reduces the chance of a mobster running into any Mafia wives while out with his girlfriend. News like that has a nasty way of getting back to a guy's spouse, if you know what I mean.
Mobsters are expected to pamper their wives and take them away for trips, cruises and that sort of thing. However, it is not unheard of for the boys to stash their old ladies in Deck A and their mistresses a deck below. This custom is affectionately known as "bringing both sets."
An exception to this rule is Christmas time when tradition dictates fidelity to the wives. For years during the heyday of the Copacabana, while it was still a secret Frank Costello operation, the Christmas rule at the Copa was mob wives only - no girlfriends allowed.
It's a neat and civilized little arrangement that helps to keep the peace in the family. As far as the wives are concerned (or at least as far as they are allowed to admit), Friday night is the night their husbands go out to play cards, and they know not to expect their men back home until Saturday morning or even Saturday afternoon. It's a safe bet that these wise guys always "get lucky" when they gamble in this arena! It gives a new meaning to the term "made man" doesn't it?
Sex for gangsters, be it illicit or not, is looked upon as perfectly normal macho recreation and, despite the rules, almost any peccadillo is permitted as long as the woman in question is an outsider. For example, it was really quite all right for Vito Genovese to have a man killed because he wanted that man's wife for himself. Not a problem. There is a mob rule against killing for personal reasons but affairs of the heart can at times be excused. Of course, sex capers that produce no "friction" are preferred, but a man of passion knows that rules and honor cannot always control the heart, so there is some flexibility.
Understand that it no way is this behavior appropriate for women. Virtually all wiseguys hold their women to a very high standard. Many consider a woman who so much as swears to be a puttana - a whore. I'm sure you can imagine the attitude toward a woman who has cheated on her Mafia husband. This is unacceptable, the ultimate insult to a Mafioso's honor and manliness, and is punishable by death.
All in all, the rules are simple. A Mafioso is expected to enjoy mistresses and to keep them quiet. To insult his wife by allowing her to discover the slightest detail of peccadilloes would be crude and unmanly. Though the mobster may stray for his recreation and his reputation, he strives to treat his wife with respect and manners. A man of honor generally holds his wife and children sacred, and he expects them to reciprocate. Simple enough?
That said, I'm going to go into some specifics as to how the Tesorieri family's code goes. ^^
General Code
Respect is important. Respect your superiors. Listen to what they say. Obey them.Be polite. Do not be rude unless treated the same way first.
Don't tell anyone anything about the operations unless they absolutely must know. If they really didn't need to know, you stand a good chance of having a contract taken out on you.
Do not get in each other's way. Cooperate, dammit. And cooperate with other Families, unless the boss says not to.
Try to stay inconspicuous when carrying out a hit. Nothing is stupider than being recognized when offing someone.
Murder is not tolerated unless:
- One is ordered to carry out a hit.
- It is done in self-defense, or in defense of another member of the Family, or in defense of one's own family. And sometimes not even then.
- It is done to acquire a wife or husband (one must ask for permission from the boss to do this, though).
There will not be, under any circumstances, rape of anyone.
On that note, sexual harassment is bad. Don't do it.
Racist and sexist remarks are not befitting of a wiseguy. They are not allowed.
Do not sell drugs to anyone who is obviously under the age of eighteen.
Superiors expect to be paid a percentage of your profits. They will tell you how much this is. Pay them.
Informants will most definitely be offed.
Juppo's Mistresses
Blah, you knew I was gonna get to them someday. ^_~Juppo has four mistresses. They are named Ophelia, Bianca, Zoe, and Felicity. I'm not giving out details about them unless asked.
Since Juppo is not married, he doesn't have to jump through all those hoops regarding mistresses. But he has five-day cycles in which he visits them each (one to a day), then doesn't see any of them for a day.
They are aware of each other's existences. So are many members of the Tesorieri family, as well as the Kikai Organization. However, they regard themselves and each other as "close friends of Juppo's"; though members would probably know that they are mistresses, this isn't supposed to be spoken of.
Juppo may be having affairs with other women at any given time, but probably not for as long as the mistresses.
Oh, and Juppo will be really pissed off if he thinks someone is having an affair with one of them behind his back.
Joining the Tesorieri Family
Well, one must first be a loyalist, right? Best way to become one of those is to hang out with who one knows is in the family. Eventually, a soldier may claim an individual as "theirs".After becoming a loyalist, it takes time. Lots and lots of time. It depends on the individual, of course, but it is not uncommon for someone to stay a loyalist for five, six, seven years before they are even considered for initiation. Of course, this can be cut down by quite a bit, especially if one is "born" into the Family. Blood relatives of existing members have an easier time with getting in, plain and simple. The Tesorieri, like any Mafia Family, is going to be selective about members; only those they feel can be trusted will make it in.
Once a member is up for initiation, the next step is for them to make their bones. The person given the opportunity is usually not told that this is what makes or breaks them, but the prospective member may be able to figure it out.
The boss of the family will then initiate them when this is complete through a ceremony. But I won't disclose exactly how this goes here. Ask if you want to know.
